Saint Mary Magdalene and the Synod Mothers:
Prophetic Disciples of Jesus’ Inclusive Ministry

Tuesday, July 22, 12:00 p.m. ET | Event Registration

16th ANNUAL SAINT MARY MAGDALENE CELEBRATION

On April 26, 2023, the synod office announced, “the Holy Father approved the extension of participation in the synodal assembly to 'non-bishops'—priests, deacons, consecrated men and women, lay men and women”—to serve as voting delegates at the Synod on Synodality 2023 – 2024. In the final document of the Second Session of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, it was noted, “Scripture attests to the prominent role of many women in the history of salvation. One woman, Mary Magdalene, was entrusted with the first proclamation of the Resurrection.”

In this presentation, Dr. Cynthia Bailey Manns, adult learning director, Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Community, shares how Mary Magdalene’s leadership, witness, and authority created a path for the Synod Mothers to speak and serve in their authority on behalf of themselves and others as baptized missionary disciples of the Church.
